It’s my birthday!

My vigilant gaze scans

In every home, I see

A flurry of feet as they hurry down the streets.

Mango leaves tied on doors

Patterns of my feet drawn

The chatter of young ‘Krishna’ dressed up warms my core.

Oh! The grey clouds jealous

Cover my ‘birthday prep’

But the sweet aroma of ‘kheer’ wafting cheers me.

Lamps lit, my idol set

Prayers said at sundown,

Then I’m there to bless and slurp the butter gladly.
