This poem is written for Penmancy’s Penmuse contest. It is a Kwansaba
Invented by Eugene B. Redmond in 1995, this form was inspired by the seven-day holiday of Kwanzaa, including its seven principles of unity, self-determination, collective work, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
Guidelines:
- A poem of praise
- Seven lines
- Seven words per line
- No word exceeds seven letters
Here’s the poem:
Dreams flutter in dense ochre brick walls,
Strong roofs shelter idyllic stories of yore,
Chipped windows open, to naughty nature’s rustle
And knock of seasons in dynamic cadence.
Garden trees hold united, boughs spread askew,
I savour treats stolen from musty shelves,
A heart beats for me, my home.
