A Night Too Long

He stood under the only yellow light in the dingy room, his blank eyes absorbing the theatrical performance outside. Thunder clapped, “Action!”

As if on cue, lightening sparkled, blinding the audience and brightening the vast stage acrimoniously, only to die out before it was blamed of ripping the silence apart. The foamy waves bludgeoned the shore repeatedly till it came apart and merged slowly with them, losing it’s identity in the process.

Did it mind this vile intrusion into it’s space?

The trees, only a dark silhouette now, danced as one possessed. Repulsive! Yet, he stood rooted, unmindful of his tattered shirt clinging on to his lean body.

He felt a growl, like the storm, emanate from the pit of his stomach and course in sickening abandon all through his body. It shook him a little and a black curtain spread in front of his eyes. He swayed like the boughs he saw outside the window, but steadied himself.

Hunger!

It had attacked again. He shut his eyes momentarily, trying to quell the rising action within. But he knew that daylight might have a new scene to perform on stage- calmer and happier but his night will never turn around. Being kidnapped and mutilated, he only had the stormy nights for company.

Maybe, the sands on the shore will reclaim their identity, but can he?

Maybe….. if the night isn’t too long.
