As the gray curtains parted on the gloomy stage
Tears dropped down from an unseen cage.
The melancholic patter stopped the birds happy flight,
But the verdant greens stood upright.
I rushed out to get the first smell of petrichor,
Only to bump into a human frame I least hoped for.
My heart skipped several beats on his slippery smile,
To place it back, it took quite a while.
The swirls of steamy coffee matched his fiery eyes,
For years of long silence, we had to pay a price.
I shook my restful mind to help me get it right
Snatch my chance to pour my longings into his cup, not swallow them in fright.
He spoke, I gazed, at his stories of our distant past,
Yet, it all felt close- memories lingering till we last.
When warmth of his words crept down my spine
I attempted to ask if his journey down time was fine.
We laughed about silly friends beyond ticking tiime,
Our choices and chances in life’s journey, with a pinch of lime.
He admitted, as an accountant,
to have calculated life’s every move,
His trials and triumphs followed without a clue.
We spoke till umpteen empty cups gleamed in candlelight.
Our love bloomed from closed buds that had opened up slight.
Our desires tumbled down breaking bricks of isolation.
We shared a last cup together to seal our affection.
The stage was set and sunlight peeped behind curtains of a new dawn,
I reflected on destiny made, over shared cups every morn.
The bliss of fresh brew brought together forgotten hearts
Free and open conversations carry the promise of a secure start.
