The Dilemma Of Longing

This is an Echo Verse Poetry. It is a 14-line poem with ABAB rhyme scheme. A few words are repeated in the subsequent lines to create an ‘Echo’ or refrain. Written for Penmancy’s monthly contest.

Will not his silence ever know

That a tiny thorn of pain grows in my heart?

The pain that pricks me wherever I go,

Never letting me make a fresh start.

Maybe, I’m watering it with tears that flow,

That’s not a great way to make a fresh start,

But I promise to pull out the thorn and throw,

When his silence stops echoing in my heart.

Dear heart, it’s time to move on and not wait for a foe,

Defeat the longing and loss if you are smart.

I’m eager to bribe the gray that shrouds the noon glow

I hope you are just as eager for a sunny start.

Though hope’s betrayed, hope remains for winds of love to blow-

A hope that a deep desire will silence, the silence of my sweetheart.
