Ekphrastic poetry is a verbal description of visual art. Using vivid imagery, these poems interpret, reflect, imagine, and ‘speak out’ the story behind the art through deep observation. This poem is a humble attempt to describe the scene.
ART CHOSEN :
Young Lovers Walking Together under an Umbrella in a Snow Storm by Suzuki Harunobu.
Jeune fille, I seek shade in your downcast eyes,
Where love’s soft luminescence hovers,
Golden reflections of divinely grace,
Permeated from the parasol
Shielding your petite face
Pray! I fear the oceanic currents of love,
That carry me afar whilst I look at you,
Now is fine- These serene moments
When icy boughs shackle footsteps
Of intrusive winds and teeming wildlife,
We listen to our mellow heartbeats speak
The language of love we agree,
Jeune fille, we are one, for a lifetime,
Let’s hope our eyes don’t meet, under the parasol.
